South Derbyshire Partnership Day

Castele Consultancy Ltd recently supported the organisation of a South Derbyshire Partnership event at Derby County Football Club.  Working with the local authority, football club and community partners, we organised a number of events and activities to take place before, during and after the NPower Championship game against Coventry City on 9 April 2011.  This including organising school and club football teams to participate in half time entertainment, working with a cycling club and walking group who took a “stride and ride” from Rosliston Forestry Centre in South Derbyshire to Pride Park, helping coordinate the Mercian Regiment and Derbyshire Ram to be at the event, supporting a well dressing group to display their work, organising match day presentations and working with a brass band who played both outside and inside the stadium.  In addition, the project including producing and distributing promotional material for the event, working with ticket distributers to coordinate sales and developing the event programme.  The project included identifying and managing all logistics associated with the event, acting as the main contact for the club’s event team and liaising with volunteers from the different groups who were involved.  We were also involved in the management of all aspects on the day – ranging from organising and serving lunch to the walkers and regiment, coordinating the half time activities and presenting trophies to those who had taken part.  The event was deemed a fantastic success by all involved and is hoping to become an annual event.

Burton Rugby Football Club

Over the past year, we have helped BRFC write a new whole club development plan which in turn has led to the establishment of a new community department.  Following an initial club audit and survey of members, volunteers and supporters of the club we worked with the club to identify their priorities to help them continue to grow as a key leisure provider within the local community.   This has resulted in the new community department being established to provide opportunities for families, school coaching and holiday provision and an increased sporting calendar to offer alternatives to rugby during the summer months and for families.  To date, we have supported two community days at the club which opened the facilities to new families and attracted in access of 300 new individuals to the first event alone, ran two schools festivals at the club which would not have taken place without the club support and raised funds for coaching and leadership.

We are now offering ongoing support to the club committee to deliver the strategy and will be working with them to review their management structure over the next few months.  We also run a Business Club for the Rugby Club.

South Derbyshire District Council

Over the past 18 months we have completed a number of projects for SDDC which are detailed below.

Advocacy Reports

This initially included the production of two advocacy documents for partner groups.  The first identified and promoted Positive Activities for Young People within the District, whilst the second was a Health Advocacy document.  Both documents required us to identify the project groups and individuals to be included within the reports, meet with them to gather the information and then write the documents accordingly.  Once written, we worked with a local designer to produce the reports in a suitable style for those involved.  Both reports were written in different styles and formats to suit their audiences.

Strategy

We have also produced the South Derbyshire Sport Strategy which included managing a number of partners including the School Sport Partnership, NHS, Local Authority, Youth Service and voluntary groups.  All partners were brought together to agree outcomes and actions to provide them with strategic direction for the next five years.

Feasibility Reports

Four feasibility reports have been completed in recent months.  This has included the development of a report into the creation of a leisure card scheme for the council and three based around facility improvements.  The Leisure card scheme included an audit of current provision and neighbouring schemes and a cost benefit proposal of introducing a scheme locally.

The facility reports included one in relation to the establishment of a new dance studio at a leisure centre, one in relation to a new 3G AGP at a local leisure centre and the third in relation to a new multi sports facility in a local town.  All of these reports have been used by the council to either investigate the potential for further funding to enable the project to take place or confirm that the project would not be viable.

Club Development

Working with the Club and Play Development Officer, I have supported a number of clubs and community groups to write new strategies and action plans which have enabled them to access funding.  This has helped local clubs to both grow and become more sustainable within the local community.

Other projects have also included:

Triathlon England Membership Review

Castele Consultancy Ltd was appointed in May 2008 to complete a membership review for Triathlon England.   The project involved wide consultation with existing members, clubs and event organisers as well as participants who could be potential members of the sport.   Part of the consultation involved the development of an online survey which was completed by over 1400 individuals, giving a real insight into the sport.   Following on from the recommendations which were made, Triathlon England  has changed a number of its membership categories and benefits, has instigated a rolling membership scheme and is  currently investigating a joint membership approach with other governing bodies of sport.

Triathlon England reappointed Castele Consultancy Ltd in April 2009 to implement a number of the membership recommendations.

 East Staffordshire School Sports Partnership

ESSSP appointed Castele Consultancy Ltd to manage and administer the School Sports Coaching Programme.  This has included consultation with National Governing Bodies of Sport, community sports clubs, coaches and schools.  The project has led to the development of Service Level Agreements with the delivery partners, the creation of a coaches code of conduct and induction pack and the establishment a coaching database.  The project has clearly identified the roles and responsibilities of all partners and has increased the quality of delivery.

Following on from the delivery of the School Sports Coaching Programme. Castele Consultancy Ltd were then appointed to manage the event promotion, marketing and publicity for a World Record National Skipping Attempt by over 450 schools in Staffordshire, Stoke on Trent and Lincolnshire.  The event involved over 50,000 young people and took place in June 2009 as part of the National School Sports Week.  It is anticipated that an annual programme of events will now be established.

Summer Sports Camps

Castele Consultancy Ltd has now established a strong reputation in the local area for delivering high quality rugby and multi skills coaching camps.  Four courses have taken place during recent holiday periods providing high quality coaching to young people aged 6 - 14 years.  The most recent courses involved over 55 young people who attended for a week of skill development, game play, individual position support and skill challenges.  Comments received from parents and participants post course indicated that the course was the best they had attended.

Bespoke Training Courses

Over the past year a number of bespoke training courses have been delivered for a number of schools, school sports partnerships and community groups.  These have included a physical activity training course for reception and key stage 1 teachers, a positive play session for midday supervisors, child protection training for summer scheme leaders and a variety of training courses for young sports leaders including athletics, working with disabled sports people, child awareness and multi skills.
